The Last Word on Stewardship for this Season

“Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also”. Matthew 6:19 – 21

The above are from the Gospel read on Ash Wednesday. No truer words have ever been spoken about our personal stewardship. As we consider our tithes and personal giving this Sunday at the start of our Annual Parish Meeting we truly need to consider the last sentence in the reading above, For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. This is the key to all of our stewardship efforts.

As we move forward with new challenges for our parish, our personal stewardship will enable us to meet those challenges and allow us to grow in our ministry to those in the world and communities around us. Please pray about your personal giving.

We need to consider also that “time and talent” are only part of the tripod of stewardship, time, talent and treasure are the three parts that we traditionally think of. Without the treasure part the others are lacking for the work of God through his Church.

In faith,
